Despite reportedly earning pennies even off its highest-end smartphones, LG doesn’t plan to take a break from mobile hardware releases, with a September 21 “Class” Korean introduction in the pipeline, and likely a different product altogether headed for New York on October 1.
The LG Class, teased with an alluring “Something New” tagline and spotted in promotional material just yesterday, has apparently been confirmed as a Korea-only device to local media. That’s definitely bad news for fans of metallic Androids on the Western hemisphere, as hands-on photos surfaced online suggest the gadget’s construction isn’t plastic shaped to resemble aluminum.
It’s genuine metal, both around the sides and on the back, or at least that’s what a dummy unit inscribed with LG Class branding and U+ LTE logos aims to evoke. A mockup is clearly very easy to fake, so it’s best to approach the pics with caution, although you’d need quite a vivid imagination to fabricate such a blocky, awkward-looking 5-incher straying far from the G family’s design language.
Assuming this is the real deal, rumor has it middling specs including 2GB RAM, 13 and 8MP cameras, a 2,050 mAh battery, and 16GB internal storage will be offered on Asian shores alongside a 5-inch or so 720p display at a relatively low price point.
That means the recently benchmarked 5.7-inch H740 is a separate upcoming handheld from LG, possibly due out in North American stores after a formal announcement in two weeks with stylus capabilities.
