Jackson, who is the only original judge on the show’s current panel, told the website: “To put all of the speculation to rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season.
“I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”
Jackson is currently appearing on the show as a judge alongside Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. However, rumors have been circulating that network Fox wants to drop all four Idol judges ahead of the next season.

Meanwhile, fellow judge Carey, who is said to be “definitely out” when it comes to returning to the show, today revealed that she has dropped Jackson as her manager.
