Here's Sam Smith's Official New James Bond Theme Song, 'Writing's ...

Written by Emmy Mack on September 26, 2015

His name is Smith. Sam Smith . And he’s just unveiled a new tune called Writing’s On The Wall, which just so happens to be the official theme song for the new James Bond flick, SPECTRE.

The coiffed R&B crooner is the first solo British male to perform a Bond theme in 50 years, since Tom Jones recorded Thunderball wayyyyy back in 1965. Although, he’s had a bit of help from Grammy-winner Jimmy Napes and Disclosure, who produced the track.

The slippery, string-drenched ballad is equal parts melancholy, epic and uplifting, with vintage film noir, Golden-Age-Of-Hollywood style vibez. Basically, it brings to mind a more introspective, emotional Bond. The kind who would impale a bad guy with a nuclear rod and then go home, listen to Stay With Me and maybe cry a little.

“This is one of the highlights of my career,” Smith previously said of being given the opportunity to sing for 007.

“I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

While SPECTRE producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have made the big call that Smith’s track “will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time”.

SPECTRE is due to hit Australian cinemas on Thursday, 6th November, just before Sam Smith heads here for his rescheduled Aussie tour.
