I went back to see my friend Lucie Arnaz in Pippin on Wednesday for the Matinee here in San Francisco. She invited Ang and I to join Her husband Larry opening night I had played Mass at the Novitiate that morning, the Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux. I had to drop something off for Lucie and once I got to the theater I decided to stay for another performance of that inspiring show and Lucie’s thrilling and tender performance. Larry joined us after and the three of us went for a quick dinner at M.Y. China to discuss a party at their house in Palm Springs in November. The sisters let me sing a communion song on Wednesdays and the songs from Pippin were still in my head. I sang With You from the show. This is where a little creativity and courage come in and after all these years the sisters trust and allow me to create music moments for them that would horrify some of those frightened and blocked priests and liturgists who oppose the creative spirit. I got a text from Micheal Orland who is up here in San Francisco for American Idol auditions. He was also there on Wednesday although sadly, we missed each other. Michael is a loyal Facebook user and I went to see his post and photo. Facebook is a marvelous and wonderful thing and a place you can get lost for hours. I choose not to use it however after a few minutes on it, I spent a few minutes in meditation on it. The impression I got was the same one I got when I left the Legionaries of Christ in Rome a few weeks ago. mass there is a big, overwhelming, glorious affair, like Facebook, full of all kinds of magical wonders. I always return to the MC convent at Casilina with a grateful heart, longing for the simplicity and beauty of the poverty that awaits there. The poverty of Gift of Love is it’s strength and Joy.
