After almost ten years in the biz, Carrie Underwood has amassed a string of hits to her name so plans to release the inevitable greatest hits album before the year is over.
The country-pop starlet rose to fame in 2005 as a contestant on American Idol and plans to compile her best-loved songs, as well as some new material, on the forthcoming Greatest Hits: Decade #1.
A final track listing is still to be announced, but the compilation will include some of her 18 No. 1 singles to date.
The lead single from the collection is brand new track Something in the Water, which is Carrie’s first release since her 2012 studio album Blown Away.
Produced by her longtime collaborator Mark Bright, the 31-year-old songstress penned the single with Chris DeStefano and Brett James, and describes it as “joyous”.
“[It] is so inspirational,” the six-time Grammy winner said. “I can’t help but smile when I hear it. I hope it has the same effect on everyone who listens to it.”
The Good Girl singer also looked back on the first stage of her career, saying: “I can’t believe it’s been a decade since I auditioned for American Idol.
“Looking back at the songs I’ve released over the years lets me relive my amazing journey [and] even better, I get to include new music for the fans!”
Underwood has released four studio albums to date, Some Hearts, Carnival Ride, Play On and Blown Away, which have each been certified multi-platinum or platinum.
Greatest Hits: Decade #1 will be available from December 8.
Today (Sept. 27) sees Carrie singing live at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park, alongside other performers including Jay Z, No Doubt, fun., The Roots and TiĆ«sto.
