Wow…what a deep crop of talent this year on the girls side! All the press is heavy on the girls, insisting this will be the first time since Season 6 that a girl will win.
The Guru disagrees; however, the depth of talent in the female ranks does outclass the boys by a long shot.
Here are the Top 5 girls as The Guru sees them…
Janelle Arthur – From the moment The Guru first saw her, he picked her as a Top 5 shoo-in, a likely Top 3, and a Top 2 hopeful. Nothing has occurred to change that. She’s very pretty, very confident, very polished in her stage presence, and has a very, very strong voice. The Guru believes she will reign supreme out of all the girls.
Candice Glover – The Guru does believe she has a very strong voice; however, he also believes she is getting way more praise from the judges than she deserves. Her stage presence is simply lacking. She does not engage the audience the same way Janelle does. And, The Guru just does not believe she will capture the hearts of America as the home stretch nears. She seems to have a Top 5 finish in her future and possibly a Top 3.
Isabelle – This girl was called Christina “Isabelle” during her initial audition, but since that time, she’s dropped the Christina and is now just known as Isabelle. Well, I don’t know that she’s quite at the level yet to have a one-name persona, but it’s probably a good move and will likely help her stand out. She’s a pretty girl with an astoundingly strong voice. The Guru likes her a lot; however, he does believe she does not have as much “appeal” as Janelle does. Side-by-side, their voices are very much alike in strength and range, but Janelle is cuter, a better performer, and more “likable,” so I expect a Top 6 flame-out by Isabelle.
Angela Miller – The Guru isn’t 100% sold on this girl, but her last solo performance was pretty darn outstanding. It was a beautiful song, sung very, very well, and it was original. That’s talent. However, this will clearly not be sustainable by her because she has faltered several times already on the traditional covers Idol makes the contestants sing. She is on the pretty side, so she’ll garner some votes on looks alone, although she looked very rough during several performances in Hollywood. I expect a Top 10 finish from her, perhaps higher if she pulls out any other stellar original work.
Rachel Hale – The Guru had her in his Top 5 after the audition round, but that changed drastically in Hollywood. I think she wore out her voice, so we’ll have to watch how she cares for herself as the competition moves forward. She’s a bit goofy, which is endearing to a point but becomes annoying quicker than it needs to. She’s cute enough and does have a very strong voice for most of her range (not the very upper part). I think she’ll make the Top 12 and will probably bust out somewhere in the higher portion of the Top 10. She’s better than all but about 4 boys though.
