After watching her give a killer audition a few weeks ago and subsequently get the golden pass to American Idol Hollywood week, it’s been a long time waiting to see what would happen to MU student Kiara Lanier next. The decision to separate the Hollywood rounds by gender certainly didn’t help the anticipation; what happened to “ladies first?”
The death of chivalry aside, another individual performance and a group performance have come to pass. We are proud to report that Lanier survived the wrath of Nicky Minaj and was chosen to advance to the next round. One of the other three members of Urban Hue, Lanier’s group for the round, was not so fortunate. Although the group’s choice to sing “American Boy” was a bust (the words “unsettling” and “campy” come to mind), their performance was still better than the mangled renditions of “Somebody That I Used to Know” that other groups offered up.
Thus, Seretha Guinn was sent home and Lanier, along with Tenna Torres and Bridget Jett Hermano, moved on.
Be sure to check VoxTalk as the competition continues for more updates, interviews with Kiara and commentary.
